Petroleum oil is delicately malleable. In this work, the memorial-like exploratory well is depicted as a fascinating spectacle. Oil exploration originates from a sense of belief and adventurous spirit—it hints at the explorer’s humility towards the unknown, the under-explored or wholly unexplored realm in art. The transmissivity of the work turns the view into a meta-observation, embodying the searing impact of energy and technological mediation.
